Aniene River

The Aniene river is the major tributary of the Tiber River, it rises in the middle of Simbruini Mountains  its reservoir affects as many as 70 municipalities in the provinces of Rome, Frosinone and Rieti, with an area of ​​about 1450 sq. km. approximately 8% of the area affected by the Tiber.

The municipalities most affected by the passage of the river are institutionally united in Mountain Community of Aniene, composed of 31 municipalities, including, of course Subiaco. The institution is responsible for enhancing the historical, artistic and natural territory of the Valley, respecting and safeguarding the environmental peculiarities and traditions.

The Aniene Valley offers the opportunity to do many activities in close contact with nature. Numerous nature trails of different  difficulty, suitable for hikers, but also to those who want to engage in a relaxing and healthy walk in the countryside. Mountain biking, climbing, caving, but also paragliding, canyoning, rafting, canoening to try at least once in their life. A very exciting experience!
