The“La Parata” nature trail, which was recently refurbished, leads to the old industrial area of Subiaco, known as the workshop area, and up to the lake that gives its name to the trail. The trail begins at theSant’Antonio Abate bridge, near the former Carlani mill, which currently hosts the rafting centre of theVivere l’Anieneassociation. The 800-metre long trail leads to the Parata lake, an artificial basin that was created in the 17th century during the construction of a dam on theAniene river. The dam was used to convey the water to an underground reservoir and from there to the workshops through a system of channels. This rainwater distribution system allowed the local workshops to thrive and promoted the growth of the local paper industry, which thrived in the area from the 16th century to the early 2000s. Following the information panels, the lake can be reached on foot even by less-experienced walkers, where they can dive into its ice-cold water or admire the Cillittinu waterfalls.
